Thanks for sharing, tapping makes sense as it "taps"into our energy sources like homeopathy, acupuncture etc. So much healing potential that crys out not to be suppressed unnecessarily by many knee jerk allopathic medicines. All my best!
Yes, Ken, it is truly transformative! I'm so grateful I learned about it, and then eventually found a way to use it and reap the benefits. Of course, you know I love homeopathy as well!
I first used EFT during my stressful separation from my husband. I felt overwhelmed with grief and fear of the unknown. The training materials were free, that was 2008. I think naming the emotion and realizing that it can pass through is a helpful step in being with it and allowing it. I felt relief from the sense of being controlled by the emotion. And after a session felt neutral and calm. Like an emotional shower. Afterwords I had the power to decide how I would think about the event. I found myself moving fairly quickly to forgiveness and a sense of fondness for my ex-husband. I too use it often to help me move through difficult situations. Thank you, Victoria for writing about it.
You're welcome Mary. Thanks for sharing your experience with it. I, too, really appreciate learning how to be present with how I'm feeling and being free up from being overwhelmed and controlled by it. It puts thing balance into perspective and frees up energy that would have been consumed by the emotions. Very powerful medicine!
I have tried tapping, and I know it has been helpful to a lot of people. The part of it that doesn't resonate with me is the repeating, like a mantra, the negative feeling while you tap. It seems to me it should be the opposite, to repeat a positive message you want to internalize. I don't resonate with saying, "I am afraid, I am afraid, I am afraid" over and over. I feel like it's reinforcing that feeling and programming it to take a deeper hold of me. I'd be more interested if the technique involved positive affirmations like, "I release my fear."
The way I learned tapping was not to repeat a statement about a negative feeling over and over like a mantra. Instead, I start by saying, "Even though I'm feeling anxious (or whatever the feeling is), I love, honor and accept myself." Usually that's done around three times. That's followed by a little more acknowledgement of the feeling but not ever saying "I am anxious" or "I am afraid", but simply mentioning that fear (or whatever the feeling is) is there and then moving beyond it. If you don't acknowledge how you're feeling, how can you let it move through and then replace the void left by something positive? EFT works with the Chinese meridian system and NLP to systematically clear subconscious beliefs. It's worked miracles in my life and cleared subconscious blocks that I wasn't able to clear any other way.
That makes more sense to me. The repeating of the negative was something I saw somewhere, something that came through my Facebook feed, no doubt. I wonder if you can use it to clear intrusive thoughts?
