Well this was right up my alley. I've had personal experiences too. I love when I sense a loving energy and it freaks me out when there's something dark. The only way I can control it depends on my focus. Thx for sharing your experiences.
As you said, many of us have similar stories. Very generous of you to share yours and bring the subject up a notch on the scale of "safe to speak about".
Thanks Yvonne. I appreciate your feedback. It takes courage to be open and vulnerable. I've been such a private person most of my life, but I also know beautiful things happen when a piece is relatable and real.
Thanks so much for this, Victoria! I congratulate you for bringing this topic out into the open. A lot of people have had paranormal experiences they're afraid to share, and I hope this post will help people not be afraid or embarrassed to share their own experiences. (Also, I want to hear more about the castle sometime!) I'm really sorry about your nightmares and all the really creepy, threatening experiences. They sound scary.
When I had my spiritual awakening in 2019, I had an ongoing conversation with my long-deceased grandfather, whom I had felt very close to as a teenager, that came through different channels, mostly music. I had a long "talk" with him while I was on a two-hour car ride, wherein, I'd ask a question, and a moment later, a song would come on that would answer it. That happened over and over for about a half hour or so when I decided I was ready to give the conversation a rest. Sometime around then, I drove about an hour and a half to see a medium, and he brought through a message from my grandfather telling me to keep the faith with the things I was going through and that it was good I was having regular acupuncture. The next morning, while I was having my coffee, I opened my Facebook, and there in my feed was a 1940s style drawing of a man in a hat, with the word, "Titfer." This is Cockney slang--"titfer tat" is "hat"--something my grandfather, an Englishman who had worked in Piccadilly where they spoke in Cockney slang, used to say all the time, "Let me get my titfer, and we'll go." Nothing like that had ever popped up in my feed before.
For a while, I tried working with a pendulum to receive guidance, but then suddenly, my messages stopped making any sense at all. It became clear someone was messing with me. Fortunately, the spirit was, I think, only mischievous, and not malevolent. But it freaked me out enough to stop using the pendulum.
My sister's children are both empathic mediums, and when they were young, their family moved a number of times. One house they moved into was very cold in the downstairs office room, and my niece and nephew hated going down there. Both of them had seen two ghosts in the bathroom down there, and when they described them to my sister, right down to their clothing, gender, and ages, it was clear they had seen the same spirits.
I look forward to reading the articles I missed that you linked to, and I hope others come out of the metaphysical or paranormal closet to share their experiences!
Gillian, thanks so much for sharing that experience with your grandfather. What a special relationship you had with him! How interesting that your nieces were able to see ghosts!
I have had mixed experiences with pendulums. I don't tend to do well with props.
There is definitely more to come in the realm of the unexplained. Each snippet I shared has a much longer story connected with it. I'm tempted to share the story of being caretakers on the California ranch first. You can't make this stuff up! I will also share a story about the castle as it was called. I will even include photos.

You're welcome! It's part of me "coming out of the closet" spiritually.
